The Sunshine Bloggers Award – Part 1

Breath-Taking Ronda – Spain

The Sunshine Bloggers Award is an internet award that is given to bloggers by other bloggers. It is awarded to writers that are creative, inspiring, and bring joy into the world. Wendy Fairy Art was nominated by Holly from Spirited-Mama. Thank you so much, Holly! I really feel rather honoured…

How does it work?

Once nominated for this award the blogger is requested to write a post which includes; thanking the person who nominated them with a link back to their blog, answer the 11 questions, nominate and notify 11 other bloggers that inspire and bring joy and Sunshine, writing 11 new questions for them to answer, and on it continues…

Let me begin…

Where do you come from?

Originally born in Yorkshire in a town called Beverley, England. We moved away when I was four and I grew up in Norwich, England. Then, when I was fourteen, we moved again, back to Yorkshire, to a town named Hull. None of these places feel like home to me at all, although, sadly, I wish somewhere did. This question touches a very deep longing regarding – what home looks like for me. And, after travelling full-time around Europe for the past four years, this question has become very complex for me indeed.

What inspires you?

The moon, the stars, the sky, the sun, nature, trees and all bodies of water. I always feel most inspired at the coast or in the mountains and currently I have both so am super charged with inspiration. Also, at the moment, we are house-sitting in North Wales right on top of The Great Orme. I have recently learned, this was where Lewis Carroll resided when he received his inspiration for writing the Alice in Wonderland Tales. In fact, it was here he apparently met the ‘real’ Alice, and the house where I am staying looks right over the bay where she lived.

I also love the inspiring nature of full-time travels, because I experience, the unique colours wherever I am. So, for example, India’s intensities really got my juices flowing. People inspire me too. People who do what they love, speak their truth, shine their unique and authentic self, walk their walk, and talk their talk, – people like that, they inspire me.

What is your favourite book and why?

I have but a tiny collection of physical books in my possession nowadays. I let most of them go when we got rid of our stuff to travel full-time in our van. The ones I do keep with me, therefore, have very special meaning… I love the wisdom and perceptions about consciousness in a book by Gregory Sams – Sun of gOd. (Another unintentional reference to Sunshine here, curious, indeed!) I remember asking questions as a child about consciousness, and nobody could understand what I was trying to actually ask. And I would lie in bed at night thinking, and feeling frustrated. This book takes me down the exact road of inquiry I was searching for. I have a signed copy which I treasure.

“Everything-everything in this known universe is infused with consciousness. Consciousness is not the basic building block of matter. It is the architect. Why does this Universe exist? What is its destiny? On what does it ponder? And why is it that we humble human beings should find such things to be of interest?”
Gregory Sams

And my current read, bought for me by Mr H for my birthday earlier this year is the WONDERFUL – Shiloh Sophia’s; Tea with the Midnight Muse.

“Muse is code language for the hidden self, the one that teaches us to think for ourselves and who knows the keys to let ourselves out of our own cages. Without this awareness, we may find ourselves lost, or worse, asleep. I am into the work of waking up, and then getting down to what matters, to answering to what calls us. If we aren’t awake and find ourselves numb to the world and to our own hearts, we will continue to allow the dominant culture to direct our futures. And that clearly isn’t working.”
Shiloh Sophia

If you could travel to any one destination, where would it be?

My next destination intention, is to go and live in Bali. It’s next on my list! I have no idea on the hows, or the whens, but I know the whys. Also, I would like to go to Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and visit ALL the ancient temples. I wish to ride my bicycle around Chaing Mai too, visiting markets, buying food on my way ‘home,‘ to make dinner… And, I would love to travel extensively through Mexico, including going back to South America on the way!   We also have loose plans to travel through Morocco in our van. Or should I just move Wendy Fairy Art to Avalon and find a quirky studio space in Glastonbury…?

What is the one item you can’t stand to be without?

This is an easy one for me, it would have to be – my hot water bottle! It is pure comfort to me in so many different scenarios.

Who are you closest to?

My inner-circle is tiny. Miniscule. There is my Mr True-Love H, my daughter, and myself… Apart from that, I have a very small handful of other people who I talk deeply to, and then it radiates out to more a social level. I have quite a few friends who I don’t communicate with regularly, but when we do talk, it’s just like we have never been apart. I cherish those kinds of friendships.

Coming soon…

Hi Holly, yes born in Yorkshire. I love Harrogate, lovely part of the world. x Thank you so much for this nomination! It is my first award for blogging and means a lot to me. I just feared my answers were too long! Looking like 3 posts at this rate… the question you asked on why I blog is a whole separate post…. eeeek! Xx

  4. Angela Noel says...

I love your answers. I have never read either of the books you mentioned, but I immediately had that gut-level/heart-level feeling of having heard an old friend spoken of, without quite remembering the name. The desire for presence and consciousness, forsaking small talk for meaningful connection–I seek that too. I hope Bali is as wonderful for you as you anticipate. I look forward to reading more.

    • Wendy replied...
