New place and NEW Gallery page!

beach house

There is not a lot happening in the Fairy Art Shop at the moment during our travels. This is mainly due to practicalities. Carrying a load of packaging stuff with us in our tiny van just isn’t possible and I would have to bring less art materials. I know which I would rather have! It was hard enough making choices of what to bring and what not to bring… So, I am spending my time on creativity yes, but also on really improving my drawing and technique skills. Drawing, for me is hard. And takes a huge amount of concentration…

Book Review: The Ribbons are for Fearlessness…

The Ribbons are for Fearlessness

I have never been asked to review a book before so when I received an email from Summersdale, the publisher of this book (written along-side an EP of hauntingly emotional songs, see link below,)  I felt pretty honoured actually. And, I have really enjoyed the process of reading (on the beach!) and reviewing this book. The fact that there is an Alan Watts quote at the beginning meant I immediately wanted to read more as his talk about choosing how to spend your time, was one of my great inspirations before setting off on my own expedition to find my…

wild-woman-rising---blog-banner

Someone very magical and intuitive (thank you Jessica x) suggested that I submit my work to an on-line magazine a few months ago. It’s actually her birthday today. Happy Birthday! The same day that my work gets published! I have had lovely feedback and communications with the Editor and Art Director of the magazine at Wild Woman Rising. It’s a wonderful magazine with a diverse selection of contributors including other artists, articles and music so check it out. So here I am, published today! And, I am one happy, happy little artist! Goddess of the Sea

Moving on (again!) and sharing the magic…

“It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new.  But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful.  There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power.” -Alan Cohen Written a few days ago… We welcomed a visitor to our little place for the last week and we shared the magic of this land. And yes, Crete is indeed magical… I am completely and totally in love with this island! Whilst showing our nephew round we have come to…

Homesick…

bannerjanuary2014.3

Well, here I am, nearly 5 months since we ‘left home,’ and I said to James tonight… ‘I’m a bit homesick, you know?’ He replied that it was actually inevitable considering what we had given up and the big changes and sacrifices we have made in order to live our life debt free and the in way we choose. To some people it may seem a bit ungrateful to speak of my homesick feelings, but they are there none-the less. And, if I don’t acknowledge them it doesn’t mean they disappear – they don’t! I haven’t felt them very long…

Work in progress…

I am a mermaid floating in a turquoise pool… At last I begin to play with colour. Yes the the apartment is cluttered with art stuff everywhere. And no, I don’t care! Although I might just straighten up so we can at least eat at the kitchen table… I think she is emerging slowly, a little like me, kind of shy in a foreign land… If she turns out OK I think I will make prints of her and maybe even open up the etsy shop again. I want to make the colours more vibrant and contrasty and maybe add…

Art journals, writing and soul searching…

Photo on 29-12-2013 at 17.27 #2

It’s getting to that time of year when many of us are naturally drawn to evaluating our experiences of the last twelve months… THE time when we like to review our accomplishments and look back on getting through some tough times too. I have had a lot of big life changes this year and looking back and writing really helps me catch my breath. I recently stumbled on some wonderful writing prompts from Tess Marshall; The Bold Life (see below) and have begun collecting some inspirations and quotes to see me into the New Year. I love working in my journals…

Sat by the sea again today… inspiring me to draw mermaids…

When I was in Athens I treated myself to some expensive art paper. I need good quality paper especially if I intend to work with mixed media. I love the Strathmore mixed media paper with a velum finish. It has a really subtle texture to draw onto. So I continue to draw girls, sometimes with an ethereal ‘other worldly’ quality, – or at least that is what I am intending. Not always successful! And as I am spending so much time at the beach at the moment I am completely inspired by the whole feeling I get from being by…
