Day 2 of blog challenge… Playing in my journals.

20150212_155031

Sometimes when I start a new page in one of my journals I am inspired first by a quote and this is one of those pages. As I said in yesterday’s post, I just don’t feel like unpacking all my art and craft stuff yet. I haven’t defined a space to work and as I am just settling in, I don’t like to be overwhelmed with my stuff! But, this doesn’t mean I don’t have access to my journals and a small amount of art supplies which I keep within really easy reach. I have a tiny, tiny ‘art office’…

Setting myself a 30 Day Blog Challenge!

web-large-IMG_2543

After realising that I haven’t updated this blog in about two months I thought I would set myself a 30 day challenge; to write a short post everyday, for the next 30 days, without exception! I have seen other bloggers do this and loved following each day to discover a small snippet of real life rather than their usual longer and more edited posts. So here goes! Day One… Today marks our two week anniversary of us living in Spain. Our camper van is not finished yet but it doesn’t matter as we are house-sitting for a few months and…

Part Two… of listening to my heart

web-large-IMG_2464

As an adult, I didn’t expect to be following procedures and rules just because ‘someone says so.’ Carrying on teaching didn’t align with what my inner soul KNEW to be true. As children, some of us are used to hearing… ‘because I said so,’ and yet there I was, an intelligent professional adult, earning a good income as a teacher (see how successful I was!!) and I was following stupid rules that I didn’t believe in. All those wonderful inspirational reasons that I went into teaching for, that I gave all of my energy and precious life time to, that…

Learning to listen to my heart… part one

2014-10-19 09.36.50

Over a year ago I created a morning routine to support my well-being and I rarely stray from that, but this morning, I did. I left the house early to go for a walk and to enjoy the rare sunshine. A crisp, bright frost and a brisk stomp (as my nephew would call it) out into nature. Very uplifting I have to say. And I was thinking, I haven’t updated this blog in so long. I wondered why that was… and I know that I have been hiding as per usual. But why? Writing this blog makes me vulnerable and…

We have moved 54 times in the past year!

2014-06-29 16.20.29-1

I have not updated this blog for about 2 months as I have been completely hiding and hibernating in 10 or 11 different places…  a bit shell-shocked by the pace of life in the UK. But, as we are coming up to our one year anniversary of when we began travelling on the ‘no plan plan’, I decided to write something at last. And, just for fun yesterday, we worked out how many different places we have stayed during our first nomadic year. And it is 54 (I think!). I hadn’t realised just how many it has actually been. It…

Road trip…

road trip

A whirl-wind long distance road trip from where we were in Italy; across the alps and all through beautiful France… and nearly 2 weeks later I am still catching my breath. Thirty degree heat, sunshiney days, beaches, bicycles and bathing in the sea to UK weather and I am cold! And wearing my jeans for the first time since I don’t know when. I don’t feel ‘home’ at all. Home has a completely different meaning to me now. After feeling ‘homesick’ which I wrote about here, I am noticing the same feeling after our final ferry and suddenly we are…

Fun in the studio, aka, my yoga mat!

fairy studio

Being a travelling artist at the moment does bring up some challenges, not least of which is my studio situation! I like to make a mess when I get creative but I also need to keep rental apartments clean too… and I have a lot of stuff, different materials for mixed media and now jewellery and crafts… This can be a real logicstical nightmare! Yoga mat to the rescue! I have always liked working on the floor anyway so it makes for the perfect solution. And in between painting I can stretch out too! The best! I am just about…

Little update…

beach!

It’s been so long since I wrote a blog post I almost don’t know where to start. So much has happened and yet in a way, nothing has happened at all… Let me try and explain better… The little everyday routines that I do every single day (just about!) make me feel that nothing really changes. They make me feel safe and secure and even when nothing seems familiar whilst travelling; these simple rituals are my saviour. So, for example, I can make my bed anywhere, do yoga anywhere, complete my personal morning rituals of washing, dressing and drinking green…
