How to solve the five biggest challenges when living in a van…

IMG_0983

From an early age and before I ever lived in a van; I have always found myself very curious about what it would actually be like. I of course romanticised it with my rosy coloured spectacles. Gypsy art bus roaming around Europe. Free-spirited lifestyle, away from convention, with hippie-chic flowers painted on everything! And, it is WONDERFULLY  free and I LOVE our nomadic life. But, there are inevitable challenges and that is what this post is about. I share my five biggest challenges and what I do to solve them. Shower facilities I need a bathroom to shower and wash…

Five awesome confessions I am celebrating today!

IMG_0358

We all know that in life we have difficult experiences and joyful ones. Often, it seems, we can slip into talking about the difficult stuff and people can relate easily and we all commiserate together…. BUT, what if it felt as natural to CELEBRATE the good stuff??!! I have few people in my life that I can do this with where it doesn’t feel like ‘showing off’ or ego stuff. Just experiencing pure happiness and simply wanting to share it. It’s not that I think our ego part isn’t necessary. I do. And where I used to sit it in…

The personal experience of journals and sharing my inspirations…

Photo on 2012-09-12 at 15.49 #2

I recently took part in an on-line woman’s retreat hosted by Amber Kuileimailani Bonnici. I seem to be doing these (unplanned) a couple of times a year. They are quite wonderful, and also intense and it takes me a while to absorb and integrate all the stuff I have learned. And, to be honest it’s very personal work so, I haven’t really thought of sharing it before. But, some (most) of the women I am discovering are so INSPIRING and wonderful that I feel I simply must. Today I share the first of these. Maybe some of these tools that…

Learning some difficult lessons…

IMG_3088

Moving forwards on many levels… Lots of life lessons learned in the past two years since choosing a nomadic lifestyle. Some enlightening and joyful and some challenging and painful. I repeat the mantra… ‘I am calm, I am safe, I am loved AND I am learning,’ everyday. If I mess up, which I invariably and regularly do, I ask myself; ‘what can I learn from this?’ Rather than, ‘why did I do that?’ I think I have written about this before… Moving forwards into the soul I wholly am and not giving value to a little squeaky ego part crying…

Left alone in Lisbon and other happenings…

IMG_0794

I can’t remember my last post but I do know it’s been a little while since I have updated anything here. Having just returned to the south coast of Portugal to explore some of the quieter beaches in the Algarve and Alentejo regions, we are taking some time out just for us. To regroup, check in and clarify. Some people may think this sounds crazy since they view what James and I are doing as one long holiday. And, indeed, I can understand this perspective. And… it does feel like a wonderfully joyful way of life for us because it…

Still living in that ‘in between place…’

IMG_0952

What happens if you are flung out of your ‘forever’ home, away from everything and everyone familiar to you, into foreign lands with languages you can’t (yet!) understand? And, what happens if you did this by your own free choice because everything just felt so wrong about staying where you were? Well, sometimes it feels very confusing that’s for sure! I have to admit, I am feeling  a little impatient at the moment in the quest for a more permanent base… I want to be somewhere long enough for it to feel familiar. I will know where everything is and…

A peek inside the studio today… Sharing a new journal…

IMG_0939

A new journal… and it takes a little time to move in. Well, actually I received this journal as a Christmas present from my sister so it has taken me a LONG time to move into it. I do have a few journals on the go at any one time and I was a bit unsure about the paper at first, (even though I LOVED everything else about this book) but if it gets too wet it does wrinkle. It’s a Ryman A4 cartridge paper one and I am particularly enjoying the extra size aspect. Also, the pages fold out…

Living in ‘that in-between-place’…

IMG_0906

So, it’s been one year ten months to the day since we moved out of what was, our absolute ‘dream house.’ ! We can’t believe it’s been this long… And, we have no regrets, not even one. Even though we haven’t found a place (yet) to put down roots again, we are learning so much and moving forwards towards whatever that may look like, or, wherever it may be. This is an intermittent clarifying process with plenty of rest and adventures in the ‘in-between.’ And, that’s how I described it the other day; where I am, right now, I feel…
