Where I am right now, and Finding your Tribe…

DSC00400

So here I have put up a photo of the mess in the Fairy Studio at the moment… Well, actually I have sorted a lot of the ‘stuff’ out now but I am sure it will be back to this in no time…  And as I have been busy giving my house some much needed love in the shape of painting it and spring cleaning it and getting rid of some of the ‘stuff’ that is making it feel heavy; I haven’t really any new art to show you. I have however been keeping up with my art and soul…

Little canvas minis, visioning and something special for my mum…

-1med

These are 2 of my mini 5″ x 7″ canvases all finished and in my new Etsy shop. They even have a touch of gold and sparkle to add to their magic. The drawing evolved through a little pen sketch I did in my journal and after recreating her and painting her in different ways I then created a layered background for her to live in! It can be quite a long process waiting for the layers to dry but that’s ok if you have a few paintings on the go at the same time. I also incorporated some French…

Fairy Art Etsy Shop!

waxed guardian angel.2

We in the Fairy Studio have been pondering for a while now on opening an Esty shop… a place to sell originals and limited edition prints of my artwork… so check it out here! There is only one painting there right now but there are definitely more to come…

Experimenting with layers…

Finishing work is a focus of mine at the moment and also I have been ill for a while. But everything has come together to work in my favour… because my energy levels have been low and  therefore limiting me to just short bursts of work. This has given the layers proper time to dry and also allowed me ‘thinking time’ to decide what is going on next… and also I have given myself permission that I don’t have to be 100% happy with my results… That alone has given me the courage to just GO FOR IT! and get…

Finishing work and the perfection word…

IMG_0018

I am having a real problem finishing anything! I have no trouble at all starting working; drawing, sketching, planning… but when it comes to taking it further I get scared… It’s like I will be covering up the innocent freshness that a new painting always has, and that somehow, it will lose something by process. I know from past experience that yes, stuff can go wrong and actually (and obviously) this is a good thing because you learn and move forwards but somehow, at the moment at least, I can’t seem to let go. I have not forced, but have…

I’ve been hibernating!

IMG

It’s been a while since my last post… I suppose partly due to the holidays where we were busy visiting family a long way away, up in the mountains of the North! But also, if I’m honest because I love to hibernate in the winter… After my Vintage Fairies were complete I had a quiet contemplation period for a few weeks where I didn’t really get any art done. But I am never wanting to put pressure on the creative process as I just like to try and let it flow. Ok, sometimes there are deadlines and work to do…

Vintage Fairies now in the shop! x

Vintage Fairy Greetings Card-07

After a trip to the printers to sample card and colour quality the new vintage fairies are now available in the shop. There is a selection of eight 8″x10″ prints and a choice of ten greetings cards. The cards are printed on a cream card background to give a more authentic vintage feel, whereas the prints just had a better result on the white silk board. I also decided to hand finish the cards with a touch of iridescent sparkle.  Have a look in the shop and see what you think! xx

A new fairy in progress…

fairy9

I am having such a  fun day… just playing… Experimenting with colours and techniques and trying anything I feel like really. I love to see what happens as the fairy appears right before my eyes. For this one I have created a softer look with some lovely graphics from the graphics fairy who I credit here and truly recommend. Thank you. Most of the challenging work in these definitely occurs during the drawing stage where a lot of frustrating rubbing out takes place. But, once the face and body language begin to form it’s just a process of adding wings…
