Day 30… morning meditations in the sunshine and the business side of things…

Wow! Day 30 of my everyday blog writing ‘fun challenge!’ I am secretly amazed to have made it through. It has been ups and downs, procrastinations and a joy, I have LOVED it. And, I have appreciated so much all the likes, comments and messages. Thank you for those and even if you have just been privately and quietly reading, thank you too.

I did spend time with my journals this morning. Meditating with them in the sunshine. The sun, I find, helps me with EVERYTHING! It helped me to get really quiet and connect with myself and think and then write. I got everything out of my head and onto the page. I realised I have got a lot of stuff on my mind and that may be the reason I am not feeling very creative. I talked it all through with James later too which helped stop my brain spinning. It was just going round and round, in the background, so quiet and sneaky you kind of forget it’s there. And then you realise things don’t feel right, you’re not getting anything done and you feel a bit out of balance… It creeps up on you! I do feel such relief and a still contentment now.

I could see that most of the things I wrote down were routines I wanted to build into my days. There were not many tasks of things to cross off on a ‘todo’ list. Some of the points were to do with physical STUFF and making sure everything is organised with ease being the priority. Quite a few were about my art. But, not the fun creative side, the other part, the part where I have to market, sell or upkeep my website! The business bit…

I have been exploring today a site who will print and post out my work. There are a few out there and I have been thinking of doing this for a while. I get a small commission from each piece they sell. It will be good to start getting my girls out there again. I am excited about it but at the same time I don’t like the uploading, image sizing, back office type jobs that go with it! There will be prints, framed prints and maybe prints onto canvas too. They do mobile phone cases, tote bags, (I love these, my girls look sweet!) and even cushion covers. It’s gorgeous quality and the prices are reasonable, not cheap and not expensive.

Also, I have been commissioned to do a special piece for a family member. So, I have been feeling very flattered to be asked but also needed to think carefully about what to charge. I have reviewed all my costs today. I do have special friends and family rates but I still find it quite difficult to ask for money. Each piece takes such a lot of time and I put a lot of love into it too. I needed to ponder on rules and boundaries for such situations. Just having rules is very important for me, sticking to them is sometimes hard and I am constantly editing them as unexpected things often show up and try to catch me out… If a problem arises once then OK, but if it keeps cropping up repeatedly it needs addressing so it doesn’t come back anymore. Tricky stuff… I am working on this and learning all the time!

Words of wisdom – never say “why did I do that?” (or not do it) Just ask yourself – “what can I learn from that?” I still need to constantly remind myself of this.

I have a new blog design on the horizon and I LOVE it. James has had some ideas for a while now and has put them all together for me today. I am not sure when it will materialise in the ‘flesh’ because he has to fit me in between all his other work and building our van/house… but I can’t wait to show you. Gorgeous fonts – we are crazy about fonts (!), clean easy to read layout and just a general pretty it all up. Lots of hours of work for James, I so appreciate him. He wants me to have a blog that truly reflects me. Since I have been writing these posts everyday, it has re-awoken my love for it. My heart is in here and I want to present it in the most beautiful way possible.

So there’s a lot going on behind the scenes at Wendy Fairy Art at the moment. Creativity yes but not in the making art sense. So, tomorrow I commit at least a few hours to actual art! That’s all I have got to share for today and for a little while… I am not sure when the next post will be – but not too long I hope. Either watch out on my facebook page or send me your email address so I can let you know when I update this blog. It will be nice to have a rest from everyday writing but, it has been a pleasure too. A wonderful, connecting, sharing experience and I couldn’t have done it without you! Thank you BIG time… X
