I’ve been hibernating!

IMG

It’s been a while since my last post… I suppose partly due to the holidays where we were busy visiting family a long way away, up in the mountains of the North! But also, if I’m honest because I love to hibernate in the winter… After my Vintage Fairies were complete I had a quiet contemplation period for a few weeks where I didn’t really get any art done. But I am never wanting to put pressure on the creative process as I just like to try and let it flow. Ok, sometimes there are deadlines and work to do…

Vintage Fairies now in the shop! x

Vintage Fairy Greetings Card-07

After a trip to the printers to sample card and colour quality the new vintage fairies are now available in the shop. There is a selection of eight 8″x10″ prints and a choice of ten greetings cards. The cards are printed on a cream card background to give a more authentic vintage feel, whereas the prints just had a better result on the white silk board. I also decided to hand finish the cards with a touch of iridescent sparkle.  Have a look in the shop and see what you think! xx

A new fairy in progress…

fairy9

I am having such a  fun day… just playing… Experimenting with colours and techniques and trying anything I feel like really. I love to see what happens as the fairy appears right before my eyes. For this one I have created a softer look with some lovely graphics from the graphics fairy who I credit here and truly recommend. Thank you. Most of the challenging work in these definitely occurs during the drawing stage where a lot of frustrating rubbing out takes place. But, once the face and body language begin to form it’s just a process of adding wings…

Vintage fairies…

girl8

My latest artworks are a set of vintage mixed media fairies.  They incorporate lots of mixed media and layering techniques and each one has kind of evolved on its own… This is often the way for me, where the faces just emerge from the page through the process of drawing and re-drawing. Some days this flows really easily and some days there is no flow and I work on backgrounds or collage or just simply work in my sketch books. I think there will be six girls in this set and although each one is different, they all share a…

In transition…

blog

I have been out in the garden today building a nature sculpture out of onion seed heads, foraging, and seed collecting. The sunshine was bright and I notice how I welcome the rays on my bones. So, beautiful autumn is here and I am thinking ahead of ways to keep warm this winter…   My partner and I decided to get creative and ponder how we could change the way we live in our house both to keep warm and conserve energy. Last winter we saved a fortune just by heating one room instead of the whole house and we…

So, no art for a while…

Hazel Tree Ogham

I lost my direction for a while and could have, but didn’t panic about it… It’s all happening exactly as it’s meant to be happening and I needed to take a break from art. I actually couldn’t believe how much art I was making, it was literally pouring out of me. It was a wonderfully cathartic experience, but I was not sure of the direction, and, to be honest, I am still not sure. But, I have learned that working from a deeply intuitive place is the only way forward for me and that is a wonderful realisation of ‘the…

Do what you LOVE… x

journeying

I haven’t shared my story for the last few blogs really as I have been hibernating and feeling quite private. But I am feeling wonderful most days and know it is because I am living my authentic life by following my artistic path. Oh, it’s not quite what ‘the man’ intended, and indeed he must be rather dismayed at my lack of income and tax offerings… and I won’t deny to you that letting go of regular wages wasn’t a scary step. But, that was the only part that I felt stuck to. I knew a long time ago that…
